Youth All Star is delighted to announce that Weston Christian Academy will serve as the location for the 2020 Weston Music Festival. For two weeks, from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm, this exciting music camp will take place from Monday through Friday culminating in a grand finale concert at 2:00 pm on the 18th, with outreach performances on the 19th.
The camp is open to all string players, ages 7-19, all woodwind and brass players at the intermediate or advanced level, and all Weston Christian Academy students.
Tuition for the camp is $250 per week or $500 for both weeks. Payment may be made by check or via Paypal.
This camp will address players at all levels from beginners to advanced and include orchestra, chamber music, master classes and basic music theory. Instruments to be accepted include: violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, French horn, trombone and tuba.
Our players will focus on literature for trios, quartets and quintets and will be led by Camp Director Cornelia Brubeck (cellist with the Palm Beach Opera Orchestra, adjunct professor of cello at Florida Atlantic University, Associate Music Director of the Youth All Star and String Program, Director of Strings at Weston Christian Academy), Mei Mei Luo(frequent soloist & principal violinist with the Boca Sinfonia, Del Rey String Quartet and the Miami City Ballet), & Gus Correa, violinist with the Boca Sinfonia and director of music at Donna Klein Jewish Academy.
Noted violinist with the Miami City Ballet Orchestra and Boca Sinfonia and string instructor at North Broward Preparatory, Erika Venable, will be leading our beginner and intermediate groups.
Our woodwind faculty will include Dr. Erin Gittelsohn, (adjunct professor of oboe at Florida Atlantic University, principal oboist with the Miami City Ballet Orchestra, and Assistant Music Director of the Youth All Star), along with noted clarinetist Richard Hancock, the principal clarinetist of the Miami City Ballet Orchestra, the Boca Sinfonia and woodwind instructor at Weston Christian Academy and Elisssa Lakofsky, Professor of Flute at FIU & FAU.
Our brass will be led by Youth All Star Music Director Dr. David Brubeck (International Bass Trombone Soloist, Professor of Music at Miami Made College and Tenor Trombonist with the Miami City Ballet Orchestra), and include renown tubist Calvin Jenkins(Principal tubist of the Miami City Ballet Orchestra and the boca Sinfonia), Dr. Aaron Ney, principal trumpet with the New World Symphony and Ms. Sharon Janezic (French hornist in the SW Florida orchestra and the Miami City Ballet and conductor at the Pinecrest School).
