Oboist Dr. Erin Gittelsohn performs throughout the South Florida area and instructs young musicians from the elementary through college level. After participating in the Juilliard School Pre-College Program, she received a Bachelor of Music degree from the Eastman School of Music. She continued her education, receiving a Master of Music degree at the University of Maryland and a Doctoral degree at the Catholic University of America.
Gittelsohn has served as principal oboist of the United States Air Force Band in Washington D.C., oboe instructor at Shenandoah University in Northern Virginia, and has performed with numerous ensembles in the D.C. area. For the last decade she has actively performed in South Florida’s various music ensembles, including ballet, opera, musicals, orchestra, and wind ensemble.
Dr. Gittelsohn is passionate about bringing chamber music to all audiences, though Youth All Star, and as a founding member of the Scherzo Trio, comprised of oboe, cello, and piano. Dr. Gittelsohn is currently oboe instructor at Florida Atlantic University and principal oboist of the Miami City Ballet Orchestra.
Auditions for the Youth All Star will take place on June 8th, 2019, from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm at 1420 Indian Trace in Weston, FL. Please hit the contact tab above to schedule an audition. Current members do not need to audition again, but there will be a seating audition in the fall for all members. Times are limited, and selection will be first come first served. Our typical season runs from the second week of September to the first week of May. We hope to offer 11 rehearsals in the Fall Semester and 13 in the Spring Semester. Good luck!
Audition Requirements:
Youth All Star Strings-Advanced; a three-octave scale on ‘G’ or ‘C’ concert, and a scale of your choice. One prepared piece, or two short excerpts of pieces, which best demonstrate your ability. There may be some sight-reading.
Silver Strings-Intermediate; a two-octave ‘D’ Major (concert) scale, another scale of your choice and a short piece which best demonstrate your ability on the instrument.
Chamber Strings; a one octave ‘D’ Major (concert) scale, another scale of your choice and a short piece which best demonstrate your ability on the instrument.
Youth All Star Cellos, Intermediate-Advanced; a two-octave ‘D’ Major (concert) scale, another scale of your choice and a short piece which best demonstrate your ability on the instrument.
Youth All Star Brass-Advanced; a two-octave scale on ‘F’ Major (concert pitch), and a scale of your choice. One prepared piece, or two short excerpts of pieces, which demonstrate your ability. There may be some sight-reading. (Non Concert Pitch: Trumpets play ‘G’ Major, French Horns play ‘C ‘Major).
Silver Brass-Intermediate; a one-octave ‘Eb’ Major (concert pitch) scale, and a short piece, which best demonstrates your ability on the instrument. (Non Concert Pitch: Trumpets play ‘F’ Major, French Horns play ‘Bb’ Major).
Chamber Brass-Beginner;a one-octave ‘Bb’ Major (concert pitch) scale, and a short piece, which best demonstrates your ability on the instrument. (Non Concert Pitch: Trumpets play ‘C’ Major, French Horns play ‘F’ Major).
Youth All Star Winds-Advanced; a two-octave ‘D’ Major (concert) scale, and a short piece, which best demonstrates your ability on the instrument. (Non Concert Pitch: Clarinets play ‘G’ Major, French Horns play ‘A ‘Major).

Tuition for the season for those making a deposit by July 1st will be offered at a discounted rate of $300.00 for the season, with each additional sibling $250.00. There will be a charge for additional ensembles, if more than one is selected.
